Artificial Intelligence(AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence.

How Does Artificial Intelligence Work?

At its core, AI is the branch of computer science that aims to answer Turing’s question in the affirmative. It is the endeavor to replicate or simulate human intelligence in machines. The expansive goal of artificial intelligence has given rise to many questions and debates. So much so, that no singular definition of the field is universally accepted.  The major limitation in defining AI as simply “building machines that are intelligent” is that it doesn’t actually explain what artificial intelligence is? What makes a machine intelligent? AI is an interdisciplinary science with multiple approaches, but advancements in machine learning and deep learning are creating a paradigm shift in virtually every sector of the tech industry

Prosonic Face Mask Detection is a Deep learning, Al-based face mask detection analytic which can recognize the persence or absence of a wide variety of face coverings.

AI was a term first coined at Dartmouth College in 1956. Cognitive scientist Marvin Minsky was optimistic about the technology’s future. The 1974-1980 saw government funding in the field drop, a period known as “AI winter”, when several criticized progress in the field.
However, the fervor was revived afterwards in the 1980s when the British government started funding the technology again, especially because they were worried about competition with the Japanese. In 1997, IBM’s Deep Blue began the first computer to beat a Russian Grandmaster, making history.

In the modern world, we are surrounded by AI. From assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa to the internet predicting what we may like to buy next, AI is found everywhere. Self-driving cars are also an example of the application of AI

Narrow vs General AI

Broadly, AI can be divided into two categories: Narrow AI and General AI.

Narrow AI is the kind we use everywhere — from flagging content online, detecting faces in pictures, to simple customer care inquiries.

General AI till date remains just a concept. The idea behind General AI is to make it as adaptable and flexible as human intelligence. When scientists will be able to develop general AI remains a hotly contested debate, with some saying it’ll arrive by as soon as 2040 to others saying its centuries away, given the lack of understanding of the human brain.
  • Maps and Navigation-

Travel has vastly improved thanks to artificial intelligence. Instead of relying on paper maps or directions, you may now type your destination into Waze, Google, or Apple Maps on your phone. So, how does the software know where it should go? What’s more, what’s the best route, what are the roadblocks, and what are the traffic  jams Only satellite based GPS was accessible not long ago, but artificial intelligence is now being combined to provide consumers with a much better experience. The algorithms use machine learning to remember the outlines of the buildings they’ve learned, allowing for improved map visualizations and detection and understanding of home and building numbers. The app has also been taught to recognize and interpret changes in traffic flow so that it may offer a path that avoids traffic jams.

  • Facial Detection and Recognition-

Artificial intelligence is increasingly a part of our daily lives, as seen by the use of virtual filters on our faces when shooting photos and the use of facial ID to unlock our phones. Face detection is used in the former, which means that every human face can be recognize Face recognition is used in the latter, which recognizes a certain face. Government buildings and airports utilize facial recognition for monitoring and security.

  • Text Editors or Autocorrect-In word processors, texting apps, and every other textual media, AI algorithms utilize machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing to identify erroneous language usage and offer changes. Linguists and computer scientists collaborate to teach robots grammar in the same way that you learned it in school. Because the algorithms are taught using high-quality language data, the editor will catch you if you use a comma inappropriately.

  • Search and Recommendation Algorithms-Have you ever noticed that the goods suggested to you when you wish to watch a movie or shop online are frequently matched with your interests or recent searches? By watching your online activities, these sophisticated recommendation systems have learned your behavior and interests over time. The data is collected from the user on the front end, then saved and evaluated using machine learning and deep learning. It can then usually forecast your preferences and make recommendations for what you should buy or listen to next.

  • Chatbots-Interacting with customer service as a customer can be time consuming and frustrating. It’s an inefficient, expensive, and difficult-to-manage department for businesses. AI Chatbots are one artificially intelligent option that is becoming increasingly popular. Machines can answer frequently asked inquiries, take and track orders, and direct calls thanks to pre-programmed algorithms. Natural language processing is used to teach chatbots to imitate the conversational styles of customer service professionals (NLP). Advanced chatbots don’t need specific input forms (like yes/no questions). They are capable of responding to complex queries that necessitate extensive responses. In fact, if you provide a poor rating for the response you receive, the bot will figure out what went wrong and fix it for the next time, guaranteeing that you get the best service possible.
